Safe access to 48" pig launchers

Sakhalin Energy Investment Company (SEIC) is a JV between Gazprom, Shell, Mitsui and Mitsubishi. Their Onshore Processing Facility receives gas and after processing the gas is transported to the southern part of the island of Sakhalin via a large diameter pipeline system.

In order to safely open the pig traps for installing and removing intelligent pigs for internal pipeline inspections, the isolation valves should be tight. However, SEIC experienced various passing rates to both 1st and 2nd block valves, and called Valvetight for assistance.

After an initial site visit to assess the situation and determine the passing rates, the DBB-SAVER was air freighted to Sakhalin and deployed. Once the DBB-SAVER was in operation, indeed absolutely zero passing rate was demonstrated. The valve configuration was hermetically tight and the pig trap could be safely opened. After this project the equipment remained at SEIC, available for future projects.

We thank SEIC for their excellent cooperation and hospitality on site.
