Maximum Leak Rate Detector

Gasunie Transport Services is one of the major players in the transportation of natural gas within Europe. They are dealing with leaking valves all the time, and were searching for a method or tool in order to assist them in their strive for the a higher safety level. Especially for work in the field, e.g. a valve station scheme on the pipeline route somewhere in the middle of the countryside.

The requirements were:

  • Small
  • Lightweight
  • Easy to install
  • Easy to operate
  • Adjustable max. leak rate alarm (ranging from zero leakage)
  • Multiple units to communicate with only one central alarm monitor
  • Wireless communication
  • Battery operated (no power cables)
  • Long autonomy time (at least a week)
  • Explosion safe for use with natural gas
  • Cost efficient

The Maximum Leak Rate Detector developed by Valvetight is a tool that fulfills all the above requirements of Gasunie. The autonomy time surpasses the requirements by far, with a battery life of at least 5 years.

This tool only detects an increase in leak rate beyond a certain threshold (being zero or a small leak rate still accepted by the customer under certain conditions).

At the moment the detector is triggered, the work behind the valve should stop, or a DBB-SAVER should be connected to guarantee a safe work area behind the leaking valve.
